Mar.Z (Marzieh Shojaei, b. 1982, Tehran) is a contemporary painter working in portraiture and the figure.

Her work examines cultural identity and human presence — how inheritance is carried, marked, and held within a single face. A background in architecture underlies the practice: its structural precision, and its attention to surface, layering, and constraint.

She paints in acrylic and coloured pencil on panel, building each surface slowly toward a heightened, almost tactile realism — until the face becomes less a likeness than a record.
