Private Commissions— The Process

You tell me who the portrait is for, and what matters about them. Together, we consider whether the idea can become a painting.

Before I paint, I ask.

Each portrait begins with a conversation about the person portrayed — with the subject or someone who knows them well. For a surprise gift, the subject need not be involved. These insights guide my interpretation beyond a single photographic reference.

Scale, pricing, timelines, and payment terms are agreed privately before work begins.

Portraits and personal commission details remain private unless explicit permission is given to share them.

Updates may be shared privately during the process, as agreed with the client.

The finished portrait is seen by you first —
before anyone else, if anyone else at all.

Then it becomes an object.
